GCFD puts a new firetruck in service

GCFD NEW Engine 47

Guilderland Center Fire District took delivery of a new 2009 Pierce Pumper. E-47 arrived at the firehouse on Friday December 18^th. The members will spent the month going over the truck and learning how to operate it. Chief David Dodge put the new Engine 47 into service on January 27, 2010

The new E-47 is a 2009 Pumper on an International chassis, built by Pierce Manufacturing. The truck has 1000 gallon water tank and 1250 GPM pump with the capability of pump and roll. Also the truck can hold five firefighters and is equipped with 4 wheel drive. The new E-47 will be used to support structure fire attack, all outdoor fires and hazardous condition responses.

GCFD has launched a new web site in order to communicate better with the community we serve. GCFD wants to utilize the new web site to let residents know of any upcoming events, safety tips, resources available and recruit new volunteer members.“We are really excited about the new Guilderland Center Fire District web site” says Chief David Dodge, “we really want our residents to know there is more to this organizations than putting out fires and responding to car accidents. We want the fire department to be a strong resource to the community”.

“It was a fun and important project” according to Jude Kaiser, president of Kaiser Technology Group, who developed the new GCFD web site. “Chief Dodge really wanted to develop a tool that lets people know what is happening at the firehouse, important safety tips and the resources available to the community at the firehouse.”

The new web site has features such as a calendar of events, member listing, information about becoming a volunteer firefighter, and the ability to have online discussions related to firefighting.

New Rescue ATV in Operation

Guilderland Center Fire District is pleased to announce the new Rescue ATV has been put into service. The new Honda ATV is equipped with a fire hose, water supply tank and a pump to put out fires in the remote locations of Guilderland Center. The Rescue ATV can also be used to rescue hikers who become injured or lost. In fact, it was recently used to put out a small brush fire by the school’s baseball field.

The Rescue ATV was designed and built by the volunteer members of the Guilderland Center Fire District. It meets all safety requirements and can go over 100 miles on a full tank. The water supply contains enough water to put out a small structure fire such as a large shed or average size garage. The water supply can also be bypassed and hooked directly to a water source or the extension hose could be put into a standing body of water such as a pond, lake or river.
